A Tribute To Dick Robertson

A Tribute To Dick Robertson

The following tribute was given in Greenview in December 2016.  A thanksgiving service for Dick’s life will take place on Friday the 13th of January 2017 (7.30pm, Greenview Church).

Richard (Dick) Robertson was born in the south-side of Glasgow on August 6th 1933.  His parents were Christians and he was the third of five children. Converted at the age of 12 while attending a Christian Youth Camp, Dick was baptized (in 1950) in Greenview Evangelical Church.

After school Dick worked as a draughtsman. Then during his national service in the RAF, while stationed in Gibraltar, he visited missionaries in Morocco and felt the call to mission. He met his wife Irene at Greenview, who after her conversion at a CYC youth camp also felt God’s call overseas. Together they attended Glasgow Bible Training Institute in preparation for service.

In 1962 they married and the following year were commended by the church for work in the Argentine.

They arrived in September 1963. After language study, they served tirelessly for seven years in Pocitos on the Bolivian border, before moving at God’s call to work in Oran where they have served the Lord ever since. Their three children (George, David and Isabel) were born in the Argentine and they, as well as their 8 grandchildren, are all involved in the work.

The ministry in Oran has been wide and varied.  With his ‘hands on’ skills, Dick has overseen the modernisation of the assembly building, and by God’s grace they have also seen the work grow, not only in Oran but in other areas where Dick was invited.

Perhaps their greatest impact has been in the work amongst children and youth. The Bible Clubs in Oran and yearly camp work at Maimara have seen countless numbers of young people gathering to hear the gospel. Many of those who were saved now serve as leaders in churches and Christian organisations across Northern Argentina and beyond.

Due to his deteriorating heart condition Dick has been poorly for some time and was looking forward to being at home with the Lord. On December 1st, 2016 (83 years old) the Lord called him into his presence.

Dick was a godly and faithful servant – an example to all. He is home at last with the Lord he loved! Irene, also in her eighties, needs much prayer at this time.

May the Lord give peace, comfort and guidance to the whole Robertson family.
