Welcome, Announcements and Prayer (Vic Walker)
Songs:
We start a new series this week in Esther a story about ‘a people preserved’. In this first chapter, we are introduced to a kingdom – an empire of many kingdoms – that has great power, splendour and wealth. Yet the biblical story is that all the kingdoms of the earth at every time, are under the sovereign power of Almighty God.
These first two songs remind us of the power and majesty of Almighty God and the truth that there is ‘none above him, none before him’ and point us to Christ, who is ‘above all powers and kings, all nature and created things’ and ‘who lived to die’.
“Though the nations rage (Ancient of Days)”
“Above all powers (Above all)”.
If My People
Song: “In days of peace (All my ways are known to you)”
It can be hard for us to realise that in all of life’s turmoil and uncertainty, that God knows. His knowledge is unlimited. And this can be our source of peace, as we trust in God who is for and with his people.
Sermon: “The Empire Exposed” (Esther – a people preserved) with Colin Adams
Songs:
Our world seeks to build kingdoms based on wealth, status, and power. But God’s kingdom though seen as weak in the eyes of many, is more secure and as a church, we rest on Christ’s final victory. These final songs point us to the one true foundation upon which the church can stand firm upon and find security, strength and grace.
“My hope is built (Cornerstone)”
“O church arise”
