Welcome, Announcements and Prayer (Vic Walker)

Song: “Light of the world (Here I am to worship)”

As we start our service today we want to encourage one another with the Christian’s hope of a life to be ‘spent with Jesus’. Let’s marvel at the wonder of God ‘stepping down into darkness’, and ‘humbly coming to the earth he created’; let’s consider the cost of the sinner’s redemption at the cross. And so we worship and together we bow down and say ‘you are MY God’.

“Come behold the wondrous mystery”

We’ve sung this song before in this series yet it is good to be reminded of the ‘whole gospel story’ and our Saviour Jesus who is at the centre of salvation for all of humanity…

CAP Ministry update

Go to this CAP webpage and watch the video (it will open in a new window/tab).

Please take the opportunity to pray for all that has been shared in the video, plus some additional points below from Jacqui and Kerry:

Kerry and I ask for prayer that the people we are working with will continue to engage with us, that we might be able to offer some support. Pray for new clients to phone up.  There are so many that will be putting this off during lockdown but their debt will not be going away.

Greenview has also received a gift from Newton Mearns Baptist Church to be used in the provision of the ministry of CAP and we are thankful for their partnership in the gospel and the generosity to us.

Song: “We have this treasure (Treasure)”

We are reminded in Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians (ch5) that we are to be ready for Jesus return and ‘encourage one another and build each other up’. The songwriters encourage us with the truth of ‘the wonder and joy of his endless grace’. Surely that is a motivation to ”draw us on til Jesus comes again, to take his people home’. They remind us that we are ‘not living for this passing life’ but ‘we fix our eyes on what is sure – a heavenly place prepared for us’.

Sermon: “The end of the world as we know it” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 (Colin Adams)

including Bible reading by Fiona Watt

Song: “O church arise”

As a response to what we have heard, we want to sing of being prepared for the battle we are in as God’s people, to find strength in the Lord, to stand against our foes, to be faithful and courageous knowing ‘the outcome is secure’.
