At the end of Chapter seven we see the balance begin to swing in favour of the Jews. This swing continues at the start of this chapter as Esther is confirmed in the King’s favour, and her Uncle Mordecai is raised to second in command under the King. But the irrevocable edict against the Jews still stands. How is this to be overcome? The solution found is an equal but opposite edict! Andy Hunter explores the parallels with how a merciful God deals with the irrevocable edict that the penalty for sin is death.
