The Writing’s on the Wall – Daniel 5

This morning, Andy Hunter looks at the dramatic fifth chapter of the book of Daniel.  Here, the great Belshazzar, vice-regent of the Babylonian Empire, is conducting a drunken pagan feast.  To boost his reputation, and his ego, he desecrates the golden cups stolen from God’s temple in Jerusalem by using them for pagan worship.  He knew that his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar had learned that God is supreme over all the universe, but chose to reject it and go his own way.

Then God steps in with a message written on the wall, which only Daniel can decipher.  Daniel is now in his eighties, but he is useful now because of his stand for God in his teens and consistently since then.
